Stroke Awareness Month - Make May Purple

Stroke Awareness annual ‘Make May Purple’ fundraising event held by Clarity Software to help support people in need

Stroke awareness month takes place every May in association with The Stroke Association which is a charity that works to prevent stroke and support people that have been touched by it.

When a stroke strikes, part of the brain shuts down because bloody supply is cut off. The brain is the control centre for who we are and what we do. Recovery can be tough but with the right specialist support, courage and determination, the brain can adapt.

Statistics published on state that 100,000 strokes occur a year. That’s one every five minutes.

Research and campaigning is only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community. With more donations and support from the community, more lives can be rebuilt.

Kerry Payne, Account Manager for Clarity Software has worked with colleagues to organise an internal ‘wear purple’ fundraising event at Clarity offices in Shirley. She stated;

“Nearly 10 weeks ago my dad suffered a stroke. The Stroke Association has helped me through one of the most frightening experiences of my life. They were always on hand to guide me with support, even if it was just for a chat when I was having a bad day.

Stroke affects so many people’s lives and I had no knowledge of how badly they can affect a person until it happened to someone I love. I have learnt so much and I couldn’t have handled it as well as I had without them”.

To raise money for this important event, Clarity Software and Touch Systems staff have been wearing purple, baking and donating cakes, as well as holding raffle contents and games.

The events helped to raise money and all proceeds will be donated to the Stroke Association so that they can continue to help rebuild lives and provide much needed support for those that need it.

Stroke Association Fundraising Members of the Clarity Software team took part in various fundraising activities to help raise awareness of stroke and to support people in need.
